What actually causes it
That green tint comes from a reaction between certain metals and moisture.
When jewellery contains metals like copper, they react with things your skin is exposed to every day: water, sweat, soap, lotion, even the natural oils on your skin. That reaction creates a green residue, which transfers onto your skin.
It's not an allergy, and it's not a reflection of your skin. It's simply chemistry.
When it's most likely to happen
You'll usually notice it more:
- In warm, humid weather, when your skin holds more moisture
- After hand washing or showers, especially with rings
- With lotions, sunscreen or perfume, which can speed up the reaction
- On rings, because they sit tight against the skin and trap moisture
